Sven Botman shares what he thinks has been Eddie Howe’s biggest strength since becoming Newcastle manager

Sven Botman has now revealed what he thinks Eddie Howe has been really good at since becoming Newcastle United manager over two years ago.

Newcastle are going through a tough spell at the moment, the toughest of Howe’s reign so far, but there’s still a great sense of togetherness amongst the squad.

In an interview with NUFCTV, Botman discussed how Howe’s biggest strength has been his man management, making sure that everyone is on the same page.

Howe has created a strong culture at Newcastle

Prior to the takeover and Howe’s arrival as manager, the club was a really toxic place to be with the previous ownership neglecting all aspects of the club and leaving fans feeling completely disconnected.

It’s been a huge turnaround, even in those first few months after the PIF-backed takeover was finalised, and a lot of that is down to Howe’s management of both the club and the players.

The 46-year-old has brought a real positive energy both on and off the pitch and, while the money has obviously been a huge help, it’s been his transformation of other players that has been so impressive.

Although they’re going through a poor run of form, their worst since Howe took over, Botman’s interview suggests that the whole Newcastle squad are still fully behind Howe and know that there’s still a lot of time for them to turn their form around.

In the interview, Botman said: “He’s a really good people manager. His management is really good with players and he keeps everyone on the same level. 

“That’s how we get to achieve things like we did last season, even on the pitch we have games at a really high level and he’s really good at getting everyone on that same level. 

“With this team we can achieve really good things and if we can stay together that’s what we’re going to do.”

Howe isn’t under as much pressure as people think

Newcastle have lost six of their last seven games, have been knocked out of both the Champions League and Carabao Cup and are set to play their toughest run of fixtures in January.

However, those in charge of the club are choosing not to panic just yet and still have a lot of faith in Howe even if he struggles over the next month, leaving them in a poor position in the Premier League.

The poor form does mean that there is unlikely to be any big moves in January with the board more likely to go all out in the summer to try and get themselves back amongst Europe’s elite.

Whether or not Howe will still be manager to oversee that is not completely clear, but right now there is still no pressure from Amanda Staveley and co who understand that the team were way ahead of schedule last year anyway.
