The 2024/25 season is over for Newcastle United and will no doubt go down in history.
It was a remarkable campaign for Newcastle United. In March, they ended a 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy by winning the Carabao Cup. In May, they qualified for the Champions League.
Newcastle qualified for the Champions League instead of Aston Villa on goal difference, following a dramatic final day of the Premier League season.
Eddie Howe’s side were dreadful in their defeat to Everton, but the fact that Manchester United beat Villa in controversial fashion was enough for the Toon to secure a top-five finish in the Premier League table.

It was nervy on Sunday but, over the season, Newcastle got the job done. The margins were tight but, thankfully, St James’ Park will again play host to some huge European nights.
Indeed, defender Sven Botman is excited about what’s to come next season.
Sven Botman sends message to Newcastle United fans
The defender missed much of the campaign due to knee injuries. The Dutchman made only 11 appearances across all competitions, though did at least start to build up his fitness towards the end of the season.
Earlier this month, a report from iNews suggested Botman wants to sign a new contract at Newcastle. The former Lille star has two years to go on his contract on Tyneside but that same report claimed French giants Paris Saint-Germain had been interested in signing him.
After playing just over an hour against Everton, Botman took to social media to caption a collage of images of himself in action: “That’s a wrap.
“A season full of highs and lows, but in the end, it’s all about results. Cup winners and Champions League football secured for next season. The bar will be raised — see you soon.”

When fit, there’s little doubt Botman is one of Newcastle’s key players. Hopefully after having returned to fitness before the end of the season, he can enjoy a full pre-season and get back to being a regular next time out.

Luckily for the club, it seems their hand will not be forced despite interest in their best players this summer. Newcastle are confident they don’t have to sell any of their best players, and qualifying for the Champions League will no doubt have helped.
If Botman can prove his fitness, offering him a new contract would be wise. At 25, he still has time on his side and Newcastle think Botman could become one of the best defenders in the Premier League.
With just two years to go on his deal, talks over a contract extension should be a priority once he has proved he can keep fit.
