Newcastle United’s Sven Botman fitness fears appear to be over ahead of Sunday’s game against Manchester United.

Botman has been suffering from illness during the international break, leading to speculation that he could miss Newcastle‘s next game against Man United.

The 23-year-old was away with the Netherlands for their Euro 2024 qualifiers, looking to make his first ever appearance for his country. However, that did not happen.

He was one of five Dutch players who suffered from a virus, with a questionable curry proving to be the issue.

While the likes of Cody Gakpo and Matthijs de Ligt recovered in time for the second game of the international break against Gibraltar, Botman remained unavailable.

He is now back on Tyneside, and has handed Eddie Howe a huge fitness boost ahead of the weekend.

Sven Botman trains with Newcastle after virus

Ahead of the game against Manchester United, the club have released a selection of training pictures from Tuesday morning’s session.

Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton are involved, having not been picked to play for Brazil. Meanwhile, Kieran Trippier is back after his international exploits with England.

But the most interesting player in attendance is Botman. His presence would suggest that he is over the virus and will be fit to play on Sunday.

That is a huge boost for the Magpies, as the £35million man has been incredible this season. He has adapted to life in the Premier League with ease, and has been described as the ‘complete package‘ by centre-back partner Fabian Schar.

Had Botman not been fit, it would have created an opening for Matt Targett to start his first Premier League game since September. However, it looks like the 27-year-old will have to settle for a place on the bench.

It is a shame for Targett, but Howe will be delighted that he should be able to call upon Botman this weekend. He has already received further positive fitness news, with a report claiming that Anthony Gordon will be involved after quickly recovering from an ankle problem.
