The new year is just around the corner and talkSPORT have just released their ‘Super Computer’ predictions for the end of the season. Should this prediction be an accurate indicator, it’s good news for Newcastle United.

How do Newcastle fare in the league prediction?

According to the prediction, that win for the Magpies against Burnley may prove to be crucial. It has Newcastle narrowly avoiding the drop finishing 17th place. Furthermore, the teams that will be victims of the drop are Watford (18th), Burnley (19th) and Norwich (20th).

This is a very interesting outcome as the computer has taken into account the Toon Army’s hard run of fixtures coming up. Newcastle faces an away trip to Leicester and games against Liverpool and Manchester City afterwards.

Having said that, it obviously doesn’t mean anything as many other factors may come into play. But, what it does convey is that the arrival of Howe and the victory last weekend were crucial for the Magpies.

Win against Burnley is the step in the right direction

A hard-fought win against relegation rivals Burnley reduced high-stress levels on Tyneside. The 1-0 victory saw the Magpies pick up their first win of the season thanks to a Callum Wilson strike.

Additionally, the crowd at St James’ Park were once again in great voice throughout the clash. Furthermore, that will have given the players a much-needed boost and from the reactions from the players afterwards, it clearly meant a lot.

Signings in January might be the difference to plot the great escape

Despite being still 19th in the Premier League, the January transfer window will be a big factor if Newcastle is to survive. Defensively they look shambolic at times, so that will surely be a big priority,

New fresh faces could definitely give the dressing room a massive lift. Not just that, but an injection of quality into an underwhelming side will likely see better and consistent results for the Toon Army.

Eddie Howe and his players have plenty of work to do if they are to match or surpass the predictions of the ‘Super Computer’. However, it’s not impossible by any stretch, the win last weekend has lifted spirits. Should they acquire some signings month, there’s a real possibility Premier League football will be played on Tyneside next season.
