A report from the Chronicle suggests Newcastle and Steve Bruce are still a few weeks away from their first signing of the summer.
The Magpies have been very quiet since the season ended in May, finishing 12th in the Premier League after a strong finish to the campaign.
Since then we’ve seen numerous players linked. We’ve had rumoured arrivals. We’ve had rumoured arrivals linked with other clubs and seemingly heading elsewhere.
There’s been no takeover developments as the club remain in limbo.
We haven’t even got a kit supplier for next season, or a retained list from the club.
On the face of it, there isn’t a lot going on at Newcastle United right now.
The closest we’ve came to a signing is Remi Savage, who the Athletic claim will join Newcastle from Liverpool on a free.
However, the 19-year-old will likely be part of the Under-23s squad for now.
As for first-team arrivals, we don’t even seem close to bringing anyone in.
There was a lot of chat about Kristoffer Ajer signing from Celtic, but all roads currently lead the Norwegian to Norwich.
So when will Newcastle make a breakthrough in the transfer market?

According to the Chronicle, Bruce is hopeful of at least one arrival before the Magpies’ first pre-season friendly on July 18th.
Newcastle have two games that day, with separate sides set to take on York and Harrogate.
Those games are less than three weeks away, with the new season set to kick off four weeks later.
There are less than seven weeks until we start again against West Ham.
While we ended the season strongly, we clearly need reinforcements. At the minute we’re weaker than last season, with Joe Willock’s loan spell coming to an end.
Newcastle desperately need reinforcements, and they need them now. Teams around them are making positive signings while Newcastle are standing still.
