A number of names have emerged on the radar for Newcastle United ahead of the January transfer window.

While Newcastle fans will be accustomed to seeing their club touted as a landing spot for all manner of players across the footballing globe these days, a few individuals are consistently linked.

Indeed, Kalvin Phillips is said to be of interest.

The Manchester City midfielder has struggled for game time since a £42m move to the champions in the summer of 2022 and has reportedly attracted interest from the Magpies before.

While the player himself is said to be convinced his time will come under Pep Guardiola, there has been a new update.

The Daily Mirror claim the former Leeds star’s representatives are expected to field calls as to his availability during the January transfer window.

Though they repeat claims Phillips is yet to decide on whether or not he will actually leave, his agents are understood to be scouring the market for a potential destination should he decide to go.

Interestingly, the report names his agency as CAA Stellar, who currently have three Newcastle players listed on their books in the form of Nick Pope, Javier Manquillo and Elliot Anderson.

Opinion: Kalvin Phillips should jump at the chance to join Newcastle

While admirable that Phillips would still harbour hope of breaking into the City side, not jumping at the chance to potentially join Newcastle would be a mistake.

They are a Champions League level team with huge ambitions at the club, after all.

Furthermore, they currently operate without a traditional No.6, a role Phillips will surely back himself to compete for.

Bruno Guimaraes would clearly take some ousting but even those behind the scenes at Newcastle are believed to appreciate the Brazilian is playing somewhat out of position in the deeper role. Phillips could, at least on paper, take it and allow Guimaraes to move forward.

Where else would Phillips have access to the Champions League and potentially a great chance of being the only traditional option in his favoured position? The conditions looks perfect for him.
