The Sports Direct exodus from Newcastle United is continuing.
Monday was a great day for Toon fans. It started with a wave of positivity following Saturday’s win over Burnley.
Then came news the Sports Direct signs were being removed from St James’ Park. It was the news fans have been waiting for, and they reacted with glee as pictures from inside the ground started to emerge.

The Sports Direct signage was the final reminder of the Mike Ashley era. He left when the takeover went through. Then Steve Bruce was relieved of his duties. After that it was Lee Charnley who departed after a handover period with the new owners.
All that was left was the horrible blue and red tat emblazoned across one of English football’s great stadiums. But they are no more.
And St James’ Park isn’t the only place where Sports Direct no longer belongs.

Big change made to Newcastle United website
At the bottom of the club’s official website, there is a plethora of logos. They are our sponsors. You can see Fun88, Castore, Kayak, Carling…
It also used to feature Sports Direct, but that is no longer the case.

This is exactly what Toon fans want to see. While the process of the Ashley regime leaving has been long, it’s almost been nice to celebrate each time something happens.
It’s a constant reminder that he no longer owns the club.
It won’t be long until new sponsors feature on nufc.co.uk, hopefully with a lot more commercial potential than Sports Direct.
Good riddance.
