Newcastle United could perhaps do with some added firepower in the January transfer window.
Though, at their best, Eddie Howe’s Newcastle can be full of goals, a raft of injury problems have blunted their attacking options.
Both Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson have suffered injuries, along with summer signing Harvey Barnes. Indeed, Miguel Almiron, while remaining an effective outlet on his day, is not in the type of Premier League form he produced last season.
With that in mind, relying on Anthony Gordon to step up seems a major risk.
So then, it is hardly surprising to read recent reports suggesting Newcastle are looking to strengthen their attacking line. It is something pundit Gary Neville has called for and a number of names have been linked.
One is the rather familiar face of Ivan Toney.
Ivan Toney transfer news: Newcastle target unsure over next move
The former Toon striker has been linked with a return to St James’ Park after starring for Brentford in the Premier League.
Now, however, there has been an update.
According to The Sun, the 27-year-old is unsure of his next move.
Though Arsenal are believed to be leading the race to sign him, Toney reportedly feels in debt to the Bees and manager Thomas Frank, who have stood by him during his ban from football due to betting breaches.
As such, he is torn over his immediate future and a move could instead happen this summer.

Ivan Toney to Newcastle: January move off the cards
Toney has flourished since leaving Newcastle. Hailed as “special” by Frank for his work at Brentford, it’s easy to see why clubs would want to sign a man who scored 20 Premier League goals last season.
Still, with the player seemingly unsure about leaving in January, Newcastle cannot afford to wait around. If they are to sign a forward, they need him to come in quickly and help in the battle on a number of fronts.
Throw in the FFP worries too, it seems unlikely the club could rival the likes of Arsenal mid-season.
If Newcastle are going to re-sign Toney, it will surely have to wait until the summer anyway.
Hopefully, that helps their pursuit.
