Southampton have reportedly had an offer accepted for former Newcastle United striker Adam Armstrong.

The 24-year-old has been a man in demand this summer, and Blackburn finally seem ready to let their main man go.

And this is good news for Newcastle, who are set to benefit financially from Armstrong’s next move.

According to Hampshire Live, the Saints have had a £15million bid accepted for the forward.

And that means Newcastle will receive £6million. That’s because they included a 40% sell on clause when they sold Armstrong to Blackburn back in 2018.

Their decision to let him go was a bad one, but the big sell on clause certainly makes things less painful.

Armstrong has been a revelation in recent years, scoring 28 Championship goals last season.

And now he will get the chance to do it in the Premier League, replacing Danny Ings at St Mary’s.

The £6million will certainly be a boost to Steve Bruce, who will still want to improve his squad once Joe Willock arrives.

On Sunday evening it was claimed that a fee in excess of £20million has been agreed for the midfielder.

After a slow start to the window, things are suddenly bursting into life across the Premier League.

Newcastle have started slower than anyone, but this cash windfall might force them into even more action.
