Some Newcastle United fans on Twitter have been reacting to the news that Jetro Willems has rejected a new contract with Eintracht Frankfurt.
As you can imagine, this news excited a number of fans, especially as they were calling for him to be re-signed last week after being linked to Brandon Williams.
Willems was of course on loan at United last season, and he was largely impressive during that loan spell, famously netting goals against both Liverpool and Manchester City.
Unfortunately, the left-back didn’t have the best end to his time on Tyneside, picking up a rather serious injury towards the end of his loan spell.
Willems still hasn’t fully recovered from this injury, but when he is back it seems likely that he’s going to be leaving Frankfurt, and Newcastle United could benefit from that.
Add into that the fact that the Dutchman is reportedly keen on rejoining Newcastle, and it seems as though there could be a deal on the cards.
Unfortunately, it seems as though this deal may not be done in January, as Mike Ashley is supposedly only going to sanction loan deals will be agreed in the winter, and with Willems entering the final six months of his Frankfurt contract, it’s rather unlikely that they will sanction a temporary exit for him.
Of course, this could all change, with Willems’ agent hinting that a deal is possible.
Regardless of whether it happens or not, Newcastle fans are seemingly very keen on the idea of bringing him back to St James’ Park.
