According to reports in Mexico, Newcastle United are trying to sign Santiago Munoz.

In a transfer window where we’ve barely done a thing, we are seemingly trying to sign a player who sounds like he is from a film. But not just any film – ‘Goal!’.

The 2005 movie actually involved Newcastle, with a young Mexican footballer getting a chance with the Magpies and eventually guiding them to the Champions League.

His name was Santiago Munez. Now someone with a very similar name is being linked with a move to St James’ Park.

Munoz, with an ‘o’ rather than an ‘e’, plays in Mexico for Santos Laguna.

He’s a forward, and has got three senior goals to his name at the age of 19.

According to ESPN Digital, Munoz has agreed a deal to join the Magpies, and fans can’t believe it.

‘Goal!’ has quite the reputation with the Toon Army, and is often mentioned by new signings as part of their reason for joining.

Some supporters can’t believe who we might be signing, and are excited by the prospect of the real life Santiago coming to the North East.

Is he any good? Who knows. One thing is for sure – and that’s that Gavin Harris won’t be following him to Newcastle.
