Some Newcastle United fans on Twitter can’t stop talking about Florian Lejuene after reports emerged linking the Magpies with a move for Phil Jones.
The French defender has been earning rave reviews in La Liga this season, and understandably, fans called for him to be brought back rather than the Tyneside outfit wasting money on Jones.
There is certainly an argument to make that Lejuene would be better than Jones, after all, fans have called for him to come back recently, and he is putting up some impressive numbers in Spain, averaging 1.4 tackles and 2 interceptions per game.
However, we can’t help but feel that Phil Jones is being hard done by here.
The Manchester United centre-back may be a bit of a joke figure these days, with the man himself even saying that nobody would turn up to his testimonial, but he is an England international who has won a Premier League title.
Yes, he has made the odd mistake and his facial expressions when he’s on the pitch are nothing short of ridiculous, but he’s by no means a poor footballer.
However, you can’t blame Newcastle fans for having this view, Jones would be an expensive player as he’s reportedly on £80,000-a-week, and Lejuene remains on the clubs books.
