Bruno Guimaraes had Newcastle United fans sweating on Sunday after he was forced off against Fulham with an ankle injury. However, it looks like there is no massive cause for concern.
The Brazilian midfielder took a nasty tumble midway through the first half, twisting his ankle as he tried to retrieve possession high up the pitch.
He was visibly in pain, limping at every opportunity. The Newcastle physio bandaged him up, but it was clear that he could not carry on.
The 25-year-old was in tears as he exited the pitch at half time, leading to fans fearing the worst. Newcastle were able to find a way to win without him, but there remained a fear that Bruno could be set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
However, Monday evening brought a positive update for the Magpies. The Daily Mail broke the news that the Brazil international has not suffered a serious injury, and is facing a week, or weeks, out of action.
Now Sky Sports’ Keith Downie has weighed in, and provided an update on when the Toon talisman could be back playing for Eddie Howe’s side.

Downie addressed Bruno’s injury on Twitter, stating that the £35million man has not torn his ankle ligaments.
The reporter states that he will likely miss this weekend’s game against Crystal Palace, but there is a chance he could be fit for next Tuesday’s Carabao Cup semi final first leg with Southampton.
That would be a real boost if Bruno was available for next week’s cup clash against the Saints. It is set to be Newcastle’s biggest game of the season – at least until the second leg a week after.
Howe’s side are looking to end Newcastle’s incredible run without a trophy, and have a great chance of reaching this season’s Carabao Cup final. To do that, we need to get past Southampton first.
The Toon boss will put out his best team next week, much like he has in the previous two rounds of the competition. However, it remains to be seen whether or not Bruno is going to be available for selection.
Downie believes there is a chance, but let’s hope that he is not rushed back. Newcastle do have the luxury of it being a two-legged affair, as well as the advantage of playing the return fixture at home.
Bruno is Newcastle’s most important player. He will be a big miss this weekend against Palace, and that will tell us a lot about how we might function without him if he misses the League Cup semi.
He will be desperate to return, but must only do so when the time is right. This is a pivotal stage in the season for Newcastle, and they must do their best to protect their star players.
Rushing Bruno back could have repercussions down the line, but we must trust Howe to make the right decision.
