Simon Jordan has given his verdict on what could happen to Eddie Howe after his Newcastle United team were dumped out of two competitions in the space of a week.
Newcastle were unfortunate to exit both the Carabao Cup and the Champions League in the manner that they did, but this now raises the pressure on Howe’s job.
Jordan revealed on talkSPORT how he thinks that the 45-year-old manager could eventually become a victim of his own success if results don’t pick up soon.
Jordan thinks any pressure on Howe is coming from external sources
While Newcastle fans on social media may have vastly different opinions on the matter, the majority have been very happy with the job that Howe has done so far and aren’t exactly keen to turn their backs on him after a few poor results.
Yes, Newcastle are out of the Champions League and the league cup, but they were already way ahead of schedule having finished fourth in the Premier League last season.
That incredible finish has certainly earned Howe a lot of time and many believe he should be given the chance to take them back amongst Europe’s elite, if not this season then next.
Jordan is being fairly cautious about Howe’s future at Newcastle but has suggested that last year’s success may ultimately lead to his downfall.
On talkSPORT, Jordan said: “Eddie Howe could become a victim of his own success in terms of people’s perception of where he should go next.
“Right now, I doubt there’s any dissatisfaction up in the North East, disappointment about an individual game.
“I just think that ultimately that Newcastle are still building as a football club, still building towards the inevitable success that will come.
“It is no different to the journey that Manchester City went on.
“I still maintain, and it’s not a case of suggesting that Howe isn’t good enough, it’s suggesting that the immovable objects that he has to overcome will not succumb to the irresistible force that Newcastle are.”
Newcastle need to go on a strong run in 2024
Newcastle are currently in a good position in the league and still have an FA Cup tie against Sunderland to look forward to, but things can change very quickly in football.
If Howe is turn the conversations about him around then he needs to get Newcastle on a strong run in the new year and convince people like Jordan that he is the man to take the club to the very top.
Should they somehow lose the derby match, then the upcoming games against Manchester City and Aston Villa in January suddenly look very daunting, especially playing Villa away from home.
This is all still speculation, of course, and the club are not currently thinking about finding a new manager this season.
