The Newcastle takeover comments from Simon Jordan that the Premier League won’t like – opinion

Simon Jordan has had a lot to say about the Newcastle takeover saga and Amanda Staveley.

The TalkSPORT pundit was furious on Tuesday, and took aim at the wannabe Toon owner.

Some of it what was, quite frankly, outrageous. Some of the things Jordan said about Staveley were shocking.

The discussion was in relation to Staveley calling on the government to intervene over the club’s arbitration battle against the Premier League.

Newcastle and Staveley have called for the hearing to be held in public, asking what the Premier League have to hide.

Jordan has taken issue with this, like he does with a lot of things, claiming it has nothing to do with the government and that it is an issue for the 20 Premier League clubs instead.

After branding Staveley as a ‘self-serving, sanctimonious ratbag’, he accused her of only being interested in herself, not the Newcastle fans.

“All of this nonsense I had to listen to last year about her in tears about the opportunity missed for Newcastle United, it’s really about the opportunity that’s been missed for Amanda Staveley,” Jordan said.

Yes, it is a missed opportunity for her. But that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a missed opportunity for Newcastle as well.

This is a club that have stood still under Mike Ashley’s ownership, suffering relegation twice.

However, one thing that Jordan said won’t have gone down well with the Premier League.

Simon Jordan discusses why some clubs won’t want Newcastle takeover

Instead of rallying the government, Jordan believes that Newcastle should be calling on the other Premier League clubs for change.

However, he admitted that some clubs wouldn’t go for it.

“I can imagine why the ‘big six’ won’t vote for it,” he said.

“Why do you think in this particular instance this won’t serve the ‘big six’? Obviously the last thing they want is another billionaire owner rocking in and being able to queer their pitch.

“Along comes Newcastle with a big bag of money…one of those ‘big six’s clubs, most likely Arsenal who are not a ‘big six’ club anymore, are going to find themselves moved out of commission because there’s another group of people with an inordinate amount of money that are going to buy and change the direction of football in the Premier League again.”

That statement can’t have gone down well with the Premier League.

Ashley has already accused ‘dark forces’ of stopping the takeover, while Staveley claimed last year that other clubs lobbied against the deal.

It was reported that Liverpool and Tottenham were two clubs who were against the Saudi-backed takeover of Newcastle.

Now Newcastle have an anti-competition case against the Premier League, which they are still trying to have thrown out.

We’ve also seen an attempted breakaway league, as the ‘big six’ tried to join a closed shop called the European Super League.

The TalkSPORT conundrum

It’s difficult to listen to Jordan on TalkSPORT. A lot of what he said is to antagonise. Pretty much everything on TalkSPORT has that intention.

They want outlandish people saying outlandish things that will get people engaging with their content. It doesn’t take a genius to work that out.

While Jordan may claim on Twitter that if he was doing things for engagement or clicks he would talk about a bigger club than Newcastle, the proof is in the pudding.

At least once a week, there will be something said on TalkSPORT that will rile up the Toon Army. They react in their droves, furious at what has been said.

Rinse and repeat.

But Jordan’s comments on the ‘big six’ are certainly of interest to Newcastle fans.

A Newcastle takeover of this magnitude would upset the apple cart of the elite.

They’ve already proven they don’t want competition with the attempted ESL.

Why would they want a newly rich Newcastle United to suddenly start challenging them?
