You’ll struggle to find a Toon fan who was excited when rumours came out that Steve Bruce is a candidate to be the next Newcastle manager.
Reports emerged on Tuesday afternoon that the Magpies hierarchy were keen on Bruce, who is currently managing in the Championship.

After losing his job at Aston Villa, that involved someone throwing a cabbage at him, the former Manchester United defender took over at Sheffield Wednesday in February 2019.
The response to the Bruce rumour was pretty emphatic. Finding a manager who fans will accept as Rafa Benitez’s replacement is a tough enough job as it is. Considering a former Sunderland boss who hasn’t managed in the Premier League since he was relegated four years ago is a recipe for disaster.

It’s as if Mike Ashley enjoys the chaos. Why else would you look at Bruce and think ‘he’s the man to replace Rafa’?
But while the Toon Army are furious at the latest reported managerial target, spare a thought for his current club. Sheffield Wednesday will be hoping to launch a promotion charge like most Championship teams, so the thought of losing their manager just a few weeks before the season starts isn’t good news for them.
We don’t want Bruce. They don’t want to lose Bruce. This must not go any further.
