Kieran Trippier’s quality has been obvious already during his time at Newcastle and he kicked his Magpies career into a different gear last night.
The England international sealed the vital 3-1 win over Everton at St James’ Park, making it back-to-back victories for the first time this season.
Former Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given raved about Trippier on TalkSport Breakfast at 8.17am this morning (Wednesday 09/02) in the wake of the huge result.

“The new signings have certainly given them a huge lift, that’s for sure. Trippier is a phenomenal signing if we’re being honest,” said Given.
“He’s just won the league last year with Atletico and they’ve signed him for a relegation dogfight. I was at Manchester City with Kieran Trippier a few years ago.
“It’s amazing to see the career he’s had. That free-kick last night – he’s done that plenty of times for club and country. It was typical of him. It’s brilliant to see him settle in so quickly.”
Given’s former Newcastle teammate Alan Shearer was full of praise for Trippier as well, and hopes he is fit enough to face Aston Villa on Sunday.
It would be fantastic if Newcastle can make it three wins in a row against Steven Gerrard’s side, against a manager they have been linked with in the past.
Trippier also took to Instagram to celebrate the goal and the victory as well as thanking the fans for their support.
Trippier has wasted no time coming in and hitting the ground running and the goal should give him renewed optimism that he can keep on going from strength to strength.
