Legendary Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given has conducted an in-depth interview with Open Goal on YouTube.
He spoke at length about his time at St James’ Park, and shared his biggest regret of that 12-year spell.
Given says his biggest regret is the fact he and his teammates didn’t manage to win a trophy in that time.

“Maybe that lack of experience,” said Given when asked why Newcastle didn’t win the Premier League – or Premiership as it was then – during his time at the club.
“That’s the biggest regret to be honest, at Newcastle. I was there 12 years, we got to the semi-finals of the Europa League, FA Cup finals, run the league close but always not quite there.
“That’s the frustrating thing. They were absolutely brilliant, the fans at Newcastle, to this day still crying out for a trophy.
“You don’t feel like a failure but you wish you could give the fans something back. I’d love to have seen the takeover with big money and really have a go. It’s a special club and a special city.”

Given’s continued affection for the club is obvious throughout the interview.
The conversation offers a reminder of the good times at the club when he was there, especially under Bobby Robson.
It will be a sensational moment when Newcastle do end their trophy drought, but the club are already out of the EFL Cup, which was one of only two realistic chances to do that this term.
