‘Shambles’… Newcastle United fans encounter major problem during Atletico Madrid game, it’s not the result

Newcastle United fans were left fuming with the club during the pre-season friendly with Atletico Madrid on Saturday, and not just because of the result.

Pre-season is now concluded and Newcastle United couldn’t have done a much worse job of lifting morale on the pitch, as they failed to win any of their six friendlies.

Eddie Howe’s side competed in a Spanish doubleheader this weekend, drawing 2-2 with Espanyol on Friday before taking on Atletico Madrid on Saturday.

Anthony Elanga impressed in the first half as Newcastle put in a bright performance but that hard work was undone just five minutes after the restart.

Newcastle had a corner but left themselves completely exposed as Atletico charged forward on the counter and scored through Julian Alvarez.

However, unless you were at St. James’ Park, there’s a good chance you missed the goal and most of the second half as the club’s official stream went down.

Newcastle United fans left fuming as official Atletico Madrid stream goes down

As if sensing that the goal was coming, Newcastle’s official stream of the match on their own website went down just after the restart.

Some fans had paid as high as £29.99 to watch all six of the pre-season games, while a single match pass for just the Atletico game was £6.99.

Understandably, those who had paid to watch it were left furious when the stream went down and immediately vented their anger towards the club.

“Sort the bloody stream out. We’ve paid for this. Shambles,” @toonlifenufc posted on X, formerly Twitter.

@tonyfrith said to the club: “Thanks for the score update, would have preferred to watch it on the stream that has gone down.”

Speaking sarcastically in response to the news that Atleti were winning, @jakewinter10 said: “Maybe it’s a good thing the stream is down.”

“I might of seen this if the stream I paid for worked,” @NeilJohnNUFC wrote.

@NUFC9527 added: “Still 0-0 for me lads since the stream has gone down.”

Newcastle United lose 2-0 to Atletico Madrid

For those who were unable to watch the rest of the fixture, Newcastle ended up losing the game 2-0.

The visitors doubled their lead in the 63rd minute with Antoine Griezmann scoring a lovely goal with his first touch on the pitch.

Though the stream did eventually come back online, it wasn’t in time for the second goal.

Newcastle continued to see a lot of the ball but could do little of note with it as Atleti just sat deep and were happy to just let the game run out.

The Magpies pushed for a goal, but struggling against low blocks has become a familiar story.

Anthony Gordon heading down the tunnel after going off with a suspected hamstring injury, was a final wicked blow Newcastle don’t need after he looked good as their central striker.
