Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff has given the perfect verdict on Saturday’s draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Magpies were not at their best at Molineux, but were able to return to Tyneside with a point.

Callum Wilson’s brace ensured that Newcastle were in front on two occasions, with his controversial penalty giving Eddie Howe’s side the lead heading into the second half.

However, the Magpies were unable to hold on for victory. An error from Nick Pope handed Wolves a chance, and it was one that Hwang Hee-Chan took.

It was disappointing not to pick up all three points, especially as we had took the lead twice. It was also a frustrating game to watch, as the Newcastle players were clearly exhausted but Howe was unwilling to lean on his substitutes.

This has led to some discontent from Toon fans following the game, but Sean Longstaff‘s latest social media post has explained why supporters need to be a bit more upbeat.

He wrote: “Good point on the road, could’ve been more! Get ready and go again next week.”

On to the next one for Newcastle

With all things considered, it was a good point on the road for Newcastle.

We have come to a ground that we have struggled at in recent years, just days after an energy sapping Champions League defeat to Borussia Dortmund. Not only that, but we have arrived with a depleted squad due to injury and suspension.

When you break it down, it has to be considered a good point. While it is frustrating to not win after being ahead, this team is still learning. While last season was incredible, this season is presenting different challenges.

The biggest is playing in the Premier League after a European fixture, and it should not be understated how impressive it is that Newcastle are unbeaten in three post-Champions League games, all of which have been away from home.

Eddie Howe’s side are challenging on multiple fronts, in what is already proving to be a gruelling season. Newcastle are not going to be at their best every week, and that was the case on Saturday night.

But they were able to get a point, as they build towards another tough spell that sees them face Man United, Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund all in the space of just over a week.
