Sandro Tonali stole the headlines with a sensational goal for Newcastle United in their win against Brentford on Sunday.

The Italian scored the winning goal from an improbable angle to ensure the Magpies secured all three points and kept themselves in the running for Champions League qualification.

Sandro Tonali admitted his goal was a fluke, but that does not make it any less impressive. This season has seen the midfielder come leaps and bounds as a footballer, solidifying himself as one of the best players in the Premier League.

Tonali has played in a deeper midfield role this season, allowing Brazilian duo Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes to push further up the pitch and support the attackers.

This season, Tonali and Guimaraes have formed an incredible partnership on the pitch. The pair seem to have a natural chemistry with each other which has proven to be problematic for Newcastle United’s opponents.

Tonali admitted he ‘loves’ Guimaraes, despite claims that he thinks the Brazilian is ‘crazy’. While the 24-year-old appreciates his teammates, fans will absolutely love what Tonali has said about them.

Sandro Tonali’s amazing Newcastle United supporter claim

Tonali did not get off to the best of starts to life on Tyneside. The midfielder was hit with a 10-month ban in October 2023 after impressing in his first games for the club. However, he has since put the setback behind him and has relished in Eddie Howe’s side this season.

Fans were in awe at Tonali’s goal last Wednesday, but they should be even more pleased at what he told beIN Sports in a recent interview about his experience at St James’ Park.

“I’m happy because (the Carabao Cup win) is deserved for the fans,” Tonali said.

“Every game we had a big stadium, a lovely stadium, lovely fans.

“52,000 every game in the rain, the wind, the sun. This is so good for the players. You know if you lost one or two games, after the third game, you have a stadium full of fans – this is amazing.

“And this is difficult in football now because if you have a bad period, you have a chance to play with fewer fans. But at Newcastle, everything is different for the people because there’s passion for everything.”

Tonali praised the fans after the Brentford win, sharing how much he loves playing in a packed-out St James’ Park each week.

Sandro Tonali’s message to Newcastle United teammates

While Tonali seems to be enjoying life at Newcastle, he has made it clear what he needs from his teammates for the final nine games of the season.

The Italian is good enough to play European football every season. And while Newcastle will be playing in Europe next season, Tonali wants them in the top competition, rather than the Conference League.

In a recent interview, Tonali said Newcastle ‘need’ to qualify for the Champions League – his future at the club could depend on it.

Multiple Serie A clubs want Tonali, including his former club AC Milan, who were reluctant to get rid of him in the first place. Tonali could reunite with his former club with the Magpies when Newcastle travel to Asia for their pre-season tour. The Italian giants are in the area at the time, so there is a chance that the two teams will play against each other this summer.
