Allan Saint-Maximin and Callum Wilson appear to have missed training once again ahead of Newcastle United’s final pre-season friendly.
The Magpies face Norwich on Saturday, just over a week before their Premier League opener against West Ham.
Our pre-season preparations have been far from ideal. There’s been no new signings as of yet, while Miguel Almiron has only just returned from international duty.
And with the Premier League season edging closer, Newcastle’s two best players are nowhere to be seen.
Wilson and Saint-Maximin did start pre-season with the Magpies. Both players featured in the defeat to non-league York. They also played in the victory over Doncaster a few days later.
Sadly, that was the last time the duo played together. Saint-Maximin missed the Rotherham game due to ‘illness’, and hasn’t been seen since.
As for Wilson, he missed last Friday’s win over Burton and the behind closed doors defeat to Burnley.
Ahead of the game against Norwich, Steve Bruce had hoped that both ASM and Wilson would be available for the game at St James’ Park.
However, that doesn’t appear to be the case.
The club released official training pictures on Friday morning, with two notable absentees.
While Almiron, Karl Darlow and Javi Manquillo have re-emerged, our two best attackers are nowhere to be seen.
With the new season starting on August 15th, this is very worrying. Understandably, fans are concerned.
