Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has stated that Joelinton is showing real ‘determination’ to come back from his current injury as quickly as possible.
The 27-year-old is currently out of action with a thigh injury, having underwent surgery after picking up the problem in the Tyne-Wear derby win over Sunderland.
Joelinton has not been seen since, and there were fears that his season could be over. However, it has recently been stated the Brazilian midfielder could be back before the end of the campaign, and Eddie Howe is adamant that he is working as hard as possible to ensure that becomes a reality.
However, he is also aware that Joelinton is frustrated about not being able to contribute to the team right now.
Eddie Howe believes determined Joelinton is ‘frustrated’ about injury status
Ahead of Newcastle’s game against Chelsea, Howe spoke to the media. He was asked about how Joelinton is handling his current injury layoff.
“I haven’t seen a great deal of him,” he said.
“Of course, he’s been in and I’ve had little bits of time with him, but not a lot. I’d say he’s dealing with it [the injury] ok. I can see and sense from Joe that he’s frustrated he’s not training with us, he’s not helping the team.
“He is someone who is desperate to give. He’s got a very giving personality. He wants to be there for his teammates.
“I sense a little bit of sadness in him, but determination as well. He’s really pushing to come back as quickly as he can, but in a safe way.”

Newcastle are badly missing Joelinton right now
Joelinton is frustrated that he can’t play right now, and you have to imagine the feeling is mutual for Howe. He has spoke about how important the Brazil international is, with his unique qualities making him incredibly difficult to replace in midfield.
His absence had been even more painful with Joe Willock out too, but at least he has now returned following his Achilles problem.
His running power helps compensate for the loss off Joelinton, but it is such a shame we can’t see them play together right now.
Joelinton brings so much to this Newcastle team, which is why he is disappointed not to be available. And it is also why it is so important for the club to tie him down to a new contract.
Fortunately, it sounds like negotiations are going in the right direction, with his current deal due to expire in 2025. If he does not sign a new contract, Newcastle will likely need to sell him this summer, so it is great to hear that discussions are back on track after stalling earlier in the year.
