Newcastle United are the emerging force of English football, and Roy Keane believes that two Premier League giants should be looking over their shoulders.
The Magpies are a club that has been transformed since the change of ownership, with Newcastle constantly on the up since the arrival of PIF, Amanda Staveley and Jamie Reuben.
In a short space of time, they have taken Newcastle from relegation fodder to a Champions League team. Eddie Howe has done an incredible job in galvanising this side, while he has been backed by some wonderful recruitment.
The club is being run in a very sensible way, with Dan Ashworth in charge of football operations as Newcastle’s Sporting Director. He is setting United up for sustained success, which is why Newcastle are going to be competing at the top end of the Premier League for years to come.
Howe’s side are going to become a major player in English football, and Roy Keane believes they are one side that the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United should be worried about.
Roy Keane thinks Newcastle are a concern for Arsenal and Man United
Roy Keane has appeared on the latest episode of the Stick To Football podcast. Alongside Gary Neville, Ian Wright and Jill Scott, they looked at the Premier League title race and teams trying to catch Manchester City.
However, Keane believes that the big concern for teams trying to catch Man City is the clubs directly below them.
“We always talk about trying to close Man City but I think the challenge for some of these teams – including United – is what is going on around them,” he said.
“Whether it be Liverpool’s improvement, Newcastle, Villa. That’s the challenge that Arsenal and United have to worry about.”

Teams right to be worried about Newcastle
The big clubs should be worried about Newcastle, and they are. That is why there have been plenty of steps taken to dent the Magpies’ progress, including an upcoming ban to stop clubs loaning players to clubs with the same owners amid Newcastle’s interest in Ruben Neves.
For Arsenal, they came closest to challenging Man City last year, and will be eager to keep closing the gap. But Keane believes that the emerging threats of Newcastle and Aston Villa are more concerning.
As for Man United, they should be much more concerned with Newcastle and Villa. They are nowhere near Man City, and are fighting just to qualify for the Champions League nowadays rather than challenging for the title. That is exactly where Howe and Unai Emery are, as they bid to replace the big boys at the top.
