Back-to-back wins over Brentford and Leicester City in the Premier League have put Eddie Howe’s side in a strong position in the race for Champions League qualification, especially with five spots now up for grabs.

Newcastle beat Manchester United comfortably in the reverse fixture this season, and now Howe will want to do the double over the Red Devils.

Roy Keane and Gary Neville agree on Newcastle United point

Just last season, former Manchester United captain and now pundit Roy Keane slammed Newcastle as ‘cocky’ when they suffered a 3-2 defeat at Old Trafford.

However, it seems Roy Keane has had a change of heart as he was full of praise for Newcastle’s style of play in the latest episode of The Overlap.

When discussing the most entertaining teams in the Premier League, Keane said [47:35]: “Do you know what team is good to watch when you think about it? I know they’re on a good run… Newcastle.

From across the table, Gary Neville quickly jumped in: “I agree.

Keane then added: “Newcastle play it quickly and they have attacking players quite happy to take risks and not afraid to lose it.”

Keane predicted Newcastle to beat Man United later in the episode, and it speaks volumes about where both clubs are currently headed.

Eddie Howe has forged ‘intensity’ in Newcastle’s style of play

Newcastle are used to being called the ‘entertainers’ in the Premier League, and Howe has kept to that philosophy at St James’ Park.

During Howe’s three years as manager, he has always aimed to create a Newcastle team full of passion and fearlessness.

Newcastle had Wembley shaking when they went toe-to-toe with Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final and came out on top.

Since day one on Tyneside, Howe’s mantra has been ‘intensity is our identity’ and he has now created a side that is the envy of the Premier League.

While other clubs are busy trying to replicate Pep Guardiola and Manchester City’s style of play, Newcastle have broken the mold and have established their own unique identity under Howe.
