For a long time, Paulo Fonseca has been the favourite for the Newcastle United job.
He has reportedly held talks with the new Magpies owners, and is who Amanda Staveley wants to replace Steve Bruce.
The 48-year-old is keen to move to St James’ Park, and there have been claims that he is ready to accept a contract to join the club.
But there could be a twist in the tale.

The more time has passed, the less likely it’s felt that Fonseca will be Toon boss. If anything there’s been too much noise about the former Roma manager.
And Daily Mail reporter Craig Hope has given his opinion on Fonseca possibly joining the Magpies.
In response to a fan on Twitter, he wrote: “I don’t think it will be Fonseca based on conversations, but of course they’ve spoken to him, for sure.”
If not Paulo Fonseca, then who?
The idea of Fonseca becoming manager was enticing. He’s known for his attacking football, even if his lack of Premier League experience could work against him.
Then again, our previous manager had a lot of Premier League experience and look how that turned out.

It’s been reported by Bild that Lucien Favre is now the favourite – another top manger who plays on the front foot. That’s what Toon fans would love to see.
The 63-year-old feels like the most likely contender at the minute, simply because he’s out of work. Erik ten Hag would be a sensational appointment, but he is reportedly reluctant to leave Ajax.
While the wait is agonising, the owners are right to take their time. Rushing will only lead to mistakes – mistakes we can’t afford to make.
