With six Premier League clubs reportedly chasing Philippe Coutinho, it was only a matter of time before Newcastle were mentioned.
Shock news broke on Wednesday that Aston Villa were one of the clubs keen to land the Brazilian superstar, who is set to join an English side in the coming days.
It was claimed that other Premier League teams are keen, and now some of them have been named.

Newcastle reportedly one of six clubs keen on Philippe Coutinho
Speaking live on Sky Sports, reporter Rob Dorsett named three more teams interested in Coutinho alongside Aston Villa.
“Arsenal, Spurs and Newcastle I’ve been told this morning are three clubs amongst those six who are also interested in Philippe Coutinho,” he told Sky Sports News.
“But as I say, we’ve got to speak to the clubs about those so we shouldn’t go too big on that now.”

No surprise to see Newcastle mentioned in Coutinho saga
When it was claimed that six Premier League clubs wanted Coutinho, it was inevitable that Newcastle were going to be one of them.
He was reportedly wanted by PIF back in 2020 when the takeover was first on the horizon. More than a year later and Coutinho was mentioned again shortly after the £305million deal was completed.
The Magpies have been linked with plenty of superstar names, with clubs looking to pass on their deadweight and benefit from Newcastle’s newfound wealth. Barcelona are no different, with the Athletic claiming they want Newcastle to help ease their financial woes. Maybe just don’t sign Ferran Torres for £46.7million lads…
But back to Coutinho, who would of course be a landmark signing for Newcastle.

While Kieran Trippier is a statement but sensible arrival, Coutinho would be all Hollywood. This is a player who cost Barcelona £142million. He’s the kind of fantasy signing the media have touted ever since the Saudi-backed takeover was approved.
But are Newcastle just being used to perhaps drive up the price and create a bidding war? Lest we forget, we’re still in the relegation zone and Coutinho was once one of the top footballers in the world.
It’s intriguing to see us mentioned by Sky Sports, but this still feels massively unlikely. And that might not be a bad thing. Let’s walk before we can run.
