Alexander Isak has missed Newcastle United’s last two games due to injury, but could now return this weekend against Manchester United.
The Sweden international hasn’t been seen since the 1-1 draw with Bournmouth, where his second half penalty earned the Magpies a point. It was Isak’s second goal for his new club, having scored on his debut in defeat to Liverpool.
After the Bournemouth draw, Isak went on international duty to represent his country, but returned early due to injury. It was then claimed that he could be out for several weeks.
However, a positive update emerged from Eddie Howe last week. The Newcastle manager stated that Isak was back running, and hoped that a return wouldn’t be too far away.
Now the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope has provided a very exciting update for Toon fans.

Hope: Isak could return vs Man United
Newcastle head to Old Trafford on Sunday in good form, and they could also have an extra option on the bench.
The Daily Mail’s Craig Hope has taken to Twitter to provide promising news on Isak’s injury status.
He wrote: “Sounds like Alexander Isak has a chance of making bench at Man Utd on Sunday after thigh layoff.”
That is excellent news for everyone associated with Newcastle. Isak is an incredibly exciting player – the club’s record signing at £59million.
Getting him back fit will be a real boost, and give Howe even more options in attack. That is cause for concern for other teams, given the fact Newcastle are finally clicking into gear in the final third.
The Magpies have scored nine goals in their last two games, and could now have Isak available as well. Combine that with a returning Allan Saint-Maximin, an in-form Miguel Almiron and a hungry for goals Callum Wilson and Newcastle’s forward line suddenly looks incredibly dangerous.
Having Isak on the bench at Old Trafford would delight Howe, who has previously called him ‘special‘. However, the Toon boss has so far been unable to play his record signing in the same team as his number nine.
It is currently unclear how the pair will play together. Will they be up front in a two? Or will Isak play out wide? With news that Isak could be on the bench on Sunday, we might not have to wait too long to find out.
