Reported Newcastle United target Oliver Skipp was excellent for Tottenham as they beat champions Manchester City on Sunday.
Just after the Magpies were beaten 4-2 in their first game against West Ham, Spurs and Man City were preparing to play the final game of the weekend.
Many expected the champions to wipe the floor with Spurs, who have spent most of the summer sweating about finding a new manager. On top of that, they’ve also had the Harry Kane saga.
But by the time the 90 minutes were up, Tottenham and new boss Nuno Espirito Santo were celebrating a huge 1-0 win.

Spurs were excellent on the break, with their pace causing Man City so many problems.
The presence of Skipp in the Spurs midfield will certainly be of interest to Newcastle fans, but it ended in good and bad news for the Toon Army. The Daily Mail reported recently that the Magpies are interested in a loan deal.
The good thing is the 20-year-old proved he can hang in the Premier League, working tirelessly to break up Manchester City attacks alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
It was the kind of performance we needed from one of our midfielders against West Ham. Instead we had a slow Jonjo Shelvey, an ineffective Isaac Hayden and an out of position Miguel Almiron.
Sadly for Newcastle, Skipp played so well that it feels like there’s no chance Spurs will loan him out.

He’s clearly up to the Tottenham standard already, and will only get better as the season goes on.
While his performance against City may have encouraged Newcastle that he is the kind of player we need, it has probably pushed him further away from St James’ Park.
