Newcastle United should ramp up their efforts to sign Feyenoord star Luis Sinisterra in the January transfer window.

The Magpies have been linked with a move for the winger. That’s according to Dutch journalist Maarten Wijffels, who was speaking on Voetbalpodcast.

The 22-year-old, a Colombia international, has been with the Eredivisie giants since the summer of 2019, when he moved from Once Caldas.

The season isn’t even at the half-way stage yet and Sinisterra has already surpassed his previous best goalscoring campaign.

RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.

In 2019/20, Sinisterra finished with seven goals. But after 24 games this season, he has scored 13 goals and registered seven assists.

With a rating of 8.13, Sinisterra is currently the highest-rated performing player in the Eredivisie so far this season, according to WhoScored.

He scored both the goals in Feyenoord’s 2-1 win against Heracles at the de Kuip stadium last night.

He would have had a hat-trick, but his 11th-minute strike was ruled out by VAR following an earlier foul.

Feyenoord are currently second after 14 games played and only trail reigning champions Ajax by one point.

Considering Feyenoord finished 29 points behind their rivals last season, Sinisterra’s performances look to have galvanised his teammates.

Feyenoord have also qualified for the knockout stages of the Europa Conference League after qualifying as Group E winners with a game to spare.

Can Newcastle prize him away from Feyenoord?

Speaking on the Voetbalpodcast about Newcastle’s pursuit of Sinisterra, Wijffels said: “This will be the €20million/£17million sale that will go through.”

However, Wijffels was making these claims when Steve Bruce was still in charge. But with Eddie Howe now at the helm and the January window fast approaching, defensive reinforcements have to be Newcastle’s priority.

But at the same time, being winless from 14 games and six points adrift from safety means that Newcastle desperately need to start winning football matches.

Aside from Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin, it’s hard to see where else the goals are going to come from.

Newcastle have scored 16 goals so far this season, that’s only three more than Sinisterra has managed by himself.

If Sinisterra is available for the £17million Wijffels claims, Newcastle could sign Feyenoord’s prized asset and still utilise the Saudi-led consortium’s riches to bolster a leaky backline.
