Club chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan watched Newcastle United beat Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.
The governor of PIF hadn’t been to St James’ Park for a few months. The last time he was there the Magpies were knocked out of the FA Cup in humiliating fashion.
Al-Rumayyan watched on as his investment lost 1-0 to League One Cambridge United. He probably thought he was witnessing a different team last night.
It was Newcastle’s sixth home win in a row, and it moves them up to 11th in the Premier League. Eddie Howe’s side now have 40 points, and have a chance at finishing in the top half.
The turnaround has been remarkable, especially since Rumayyan’s last appearance in the director’s box.

After the game, Al-Rumayyan headed to the dressing room. He did the same after the Cambridge defeat, but the mood was a lot more positive this time.
He was joined by the other members of the consortium, and the Telegraph state he congratulated the players for their performance.
He also reportedly ‘wholeheartedly’ thanked Howe for the job he and his staff have done. They have done brilliantly to move Newcastle away from danger.
That’s largely been down to our home form. The last time we lost in the Premier League at home was on December 19th to Manchester City.
The owners then joined in with the customary team photo – a tradition after every win.
The chairman also found time to head to the pitch, where he enjoyed a kickabout with Jamie Reuben and Mehrdad Ghodoussi.
Hopefully none of them think they have a chance of being a part of Eddie Howe’s squad next season…
While Newcastle have been brilliant in recent months, it’s good for the chairman to witness the renaissance firsthand. Things were bleak when he was last here, but now the future is brighter than ever.
