What Wor Flags produced last night was simply incredible – it was their best display to date.

The return of the group this season has been a real boost, with their hard work creating a real buzz inside St James’ Park.

However, they took it up a notch last night.

Every single supporter was involved in the display, with a sea of black and white stripes taking over SJP. There were special displays in the Leazes, East Stand and Gallowgate too, including a banner of that infamous dressing room picture.

The atmosphere before the game was amazing, and it continued through the night. As a fan, it was exciting to be a part of. But what did the players make of it?

Dan Burn’s four-word reaction to Wor Flags display

The Athletic report that some players were ‘visibly moved’ by the display as they emerged from the tunnel. They add that Dan Burn uttered four words to his teammates: ‘Deliver for these fans.’

And that’s exactly what Eddie Howe’s side did. To a man we were magnificent. It would be difficult, and harsh, to pick out a poor performer in black and white.

All over the pitch we excelled, both in and out of possession. We used the ball well and created chances, while defensively we restricted a desperate Gunners side.

What was most impressive was our press, with Toon players racing around the pitch with intelligence and intensity.

They fed off the atmosphere inside St James’ Park, and fans responded by giving the players even more love. The Wor Flags display created an unbelievable scene 15 minutes before kick off, and its momentum carried on into the game.

Dan Burn wanted his teammates to deliver for the fans, and they did just that. They’ve been doing it ever since Eddie Howe arrived, an it’s led to SJP becoming a fortress once again.

Players, staff, owners and fans – everyone has delivered for Newcastle United in 2022. Our final home game of the season was a spectacle, and a glimpse into what is a very bright future for the Magpies.
