A new Newcastle United training ground could be on the horizon in the coming years.
Throughout the Mike Ashley era, the club was criticised for its training facilities. Even Jonjo Shelvey admitted that it wasn’t up to Premier League standard.
From ice baths in a bin to Rafa Benitez witnessing a fresh lick of paint, the training ground hasn’t been fit for purpose for years.

However, last year’s change of ownership is bringing change to every aspect of the club. The owners are leaving no stone unturned, including the training facilities.
Shortly after the takeover, Amanda Staveley spoke about her desire to build a new training ground, and those conversations have continued in their latest interview with the Athletic.
New training ground locations being pitched

A new training centre isn’t in the immediate future, but it will happen. For now, the club are improving what they currently have as best they can.
But ideas are still being floated as to where the new base could be built.
According to the Athletic, multiple locations have been pitched. They report that Gosforth Park is a possibility – an area where the Reuben brothers own land. However, it is believed that it might not be big enough.

Another potential area reported by the Athletic is Woolsington Hall estate – which was bought by ex-Toon owner Sir John Hall in 1994 with views of making it the club’s training ground back then.
Newcastle’s new training ground plans are still in the very early stages – it could be a long time before the club has a new base to call home outside of matchdays. Mehrdad Ghodoussi stated in an interview with the Athletic that it could take at least three years.
But the main thing is that it will happen. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither will the new Newcastle United. But plans are in motion, and that’s one step further than the previous regime got.
