Ryan Fraser’s Newcastle United career has taken a turn for the worse in recent weeks, and it looks like he will never play for the club again.
Eddie Howe has rarely used Fraser all season, with the winger making just three starts during Newcastle’s impressive campaign.
He was heavily linked with a move away in January, with the 29-year-old seemingly keen to go and play more first-team football elsewhere.
Newcastle agreed, but were unable to find a suitable suitor. He stayed put, with Howe saying in January that he wants to see Fraser wear a black and white shirt again.
Then came news that he had been dropped on the eve of the Carabao Cup final. The Daily Mail reported that Fraser was now training with the Newcastle Under-21s, which Howe later confirmed. The Toon boss stated that he only wanted players who are committed to the club.

Ryan Fraser determined to play for Newcastle again
Now the Athletic have shed some light on the situation. They state that the Scotland international is highly unlikely to ever feature in a first-team squad again.
But that appears to be the wish of the club rather than the player. The Athletic add that Fraser is ‘determined’ to return to the senior setup and win back his place in the first-team squad.
It appears to be an incredibly messy situation, and one that will only end with the former Bournemouth player leaving St James’ Park in the summer.
There is surely no way back for Fraser, who was barely playing anyway before this mess occurred. And he has only slipped further down the pecking order following the January arrival of Anthony Gordon.
It is a shame, as Fraser could have really thrived on Tyneside. He was an exciting signing by Steve Bruce, but failed to deliver under the previous boss. Then he was given a golden opportunity to work with Eddie Howe, and initially took it with both hands.
While the Athletic might report that Fraser wants to win his place back, that feels incredibly unlikely. It will be a huge shock if he ever plays for the Magpies again.
