Report shares exactly how Newcastle reacted to claim they can sign Ronaldo

A story claiming that there is a clause for Newcastle United to sign Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly been dismissed.

The 38-year-old’s future has been up in the air over the past month or so, after his Manchester United deal was terminated. He left Old Trafford after his explosive interview with Piers Morgan, meaning he needed to find a new club.

Eddie Howe’s side were tentatively linked with signing Ronaldo, but a deal never sounded at all likely. Now his future is resolved, with the forward agreeing a two-and-a-half year deal with Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr.

Ronaldo is set to be unveiled as an Al-Nassr player, but a recent report claimed that he could have the ability to leave in the near future.

Marca in Spain claimed that there is a clause in his contract that states he can join Newcastle if they qualify for the Champions League. That is a possibility, with the Magpies currently third in the table after 17 games.

The report states that Ronaldo can go on loan to Newcastle if they finish in the top four, because of the Magpies’ Saudi owners.

It sounded like a load of rubbish, and a new report claims that it certainly is exactly that.

No clause for Newcastle to sign Ronaldo

According to ESPN, there is no clause in Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr contract that allows him to go on loan to Newcastle.

They state that the Saudi club have branded the story as ‘fake’, while United have also completely dismissed the rumour.

That is not a surprise at all, but at least puts this nonsense to bed.

Talk of Ronaldo leaving Man United for Newcastle was ridiculous, especially given the club’s recruitment policy since the change of ownership. Our signings have been spot on, and it would have made no sense to suddenly sign a player in the twilight of his career who has proven to be an ego-driven hinderance rather than the world class superstar he once was.

Then this rumoured clause was even more laughable. If Howe wanted Ronaldo, he would have him right now. The Champions League lure is merely because that is the level Ronaldo still thinks he belongs at. However, the fact he is now playing in Saudi Arabia suggests otherwise.

Ronaldo is an icon. The impact he has had on football has been seismic. The way he has gone toe-to-toe with Lionel Messi over the years has been out of this world.

He is idolised all over the globe, with Newcastle defender Sven Botman recently describing him as his footballing hero growing up.

However, Botman will not be playing alongside his hero in the Champions League next season. That is because Ronaldo does not have a clause to join Newcastle, and that is certainly a good thing.
