Cristiano Ronaldo interview shows why Newcastle are right to avoid him

Cristiano Ronaldo is dominating the headlines right now due to his explosive interview with Piers Morgan, amid speculation that he has been offered a move to Newcastle United.

The 37-year-old is enduring a rotten season with Manchester United, having failed to secure a move away during the summer. He now looks certain to leave, having criticised the club and the manager during an interview with former Good Morning Britain host Morgan.

Ronaldo has admitted that he does not respect Erik ten Hag, in a move that will certainly seal his fate at Old Trafford.

On the eve of the World Cup, Ronaldo is on all the front pages and all the back pages of the newspapers. Just hours after a Manchester United win on Sunday, the topic of conversation was turned back to him.

The Portuguese superstar has seriously damaged his reputation with his comments, and they prove exactly why Newcastle have got their stance on him spot on.

Newcastle right to reject Cristiano Ronaldo amid interview drama

The Sun claimed last month that Ronaldo’s agent has offered his client to various clubs, one of which being Newcastle. This claim has also been backed up by the Daily Mail.

However, the Magpies are not interested. In fact, i News recently claimed that there has been internal laughter at speculation over CR7 moving to St James’ Park.

Newcastle can’t shy away from the fact that they have extremely wealthy owners right now. That is why mega names have been linked with moves to the North East, as agents attempt to secure transfers for their clients.

Ronaldo is no different, but he will not buck the trend that is going on at Newcastle.

Since the change of ownership, our recruitment has been spot on. We have signed great players. But most importantly we have signed great people.

The characters who Eddie Howe has brought into the dressing room have bought into the culture, and the team spirit at the club is immense. It is a huge reason why Newcastle are third in the Premier League right now.

While we have the money, there have been no blockbuster signings. Every decision has been sensible, calculated and measured.

We could sign Ronaldo and see huge shirt sales and media attention from across the globe, but it wouldn’t be in the team’s best interest.

He is one of the greatest of all time, but he has proved with his interview with Piers Morgan that he is only interested in himself. And an ego like that is not going to fit in at St James’ Park.
