According to the Chronicle, some of the Newcastle United players are ‘baffled’ by the ongoing takeover saga.
Pressure is once again mounting on the Premier League, as Mike Ashley looks to push through a deal to sell the club.
He had agreed a deal with PCP Capital Partners last summer, but the Premier League’s inability to complete their Owners’ and Directors’ test forced the buyers to withdraw.
One year on and the saga continues, with Ashley launching two legal battles against the Premier League.

The first is arbitration, which has caused the biggest stir over the past week.
On Thursday July 1st, Newcastle released a fresh takeover statement imploring the Premier League to allow arbitration to be held in public.
In the statement, the club wrote: ‘If the EPL has acted lawfully and properly, it should have no reason to be afraid of the public spotlight.’
Amanda Staveley has now got involved, sending a letter to MP Tracey Crouch, who is set to lead the government’s fan-led review of football governance.
In her letter, Staveley called for transparency and hoped for immediate intervention from the government.
Fans have been left in the dark, but what do the players think?

For the players, it must be a massive distraction. And it probably has been for a year now.
Particularly last summer, it must have been a real issue. There were daily rumours about big name players and managers arriving.

Luckily for the club, a prolonged transfer window allowed them to act when a deal looked unlikely to happen.
This summer, however, we won’t get that luxury.
Pre-season kicks off this week, and there is a distinct lack of clarity for employees and fans of the club.
This comes six months after Richard Masters said things would be sorted in a ‘timely manner’…
