Amanda Staveley reportedly wants Unai Emery to be the next Newcastle manager.

Two weeks after sacking Steve Bruce, the manager search is down to two names – Emery and Eddie Howe.

On Tuesday, it looked like the former would be the next Toon boss.

Multiple reports emerged about Emery coming to Newcastle – there were even claims that he will be manager for Saturday’s game against Brighton.

However, those hopes have been somewhat dashed by claims from Guillem Balague. He has reported that Emery will reject a move to St James’ Park.

That will be a huge blow for Toon fans who were very excited about the prospect of Emery becoming the club’s next manager.

It will also be a huge blow for the Toon owners, who seemed to think they had their man.

Unai Emery compared another Premier League manager

According to the Athletic, someone close to Staveley described Emery as ‘Rafa-like’, in reference to Rafa Benitez.

The current Everton boss would be the consortium’s ideal appointment, as he seems perfectly suited to the club’s current situation. But Benitez is unavailable due to his commitments at Goodison Park.

But comparing Benitez to Emery shows why Newcastle want the current Villarreal boss. He can get us out of the current situation we’re in, but he can also build a club that is capable of challenging further up the table.

However, it now looks like that won’t happen with reports stating that Emery will reject Newcastle’s advances.

While Emery might be ‘Rafa-like’, the main similarity is that neither appear to be the next Newcastle United manager.
