The soon-to-be Newcastle United manager Unai Emery has managed some sensational players during his career.

The Spaniard worked Ivan Rakitic at Sevilla. He was at PSG when they signed Neymar and Kylian Mbappe at PSG. He managed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Aaron Ramsey at Arsenal.

And at Villarreal he’s got some exceptional young talent. But could we see any of them follow Emery to St James’ Park?

That’s what some Toon fans are hoping, as they await the announcement of their new manager.

It has been reported that Emery is expected to replace Steve Bruce as Newcastle boss, and he could take charge of his first game on Saturday against Brighton.

His immediate task will be steadying the ship, finding a way to win and climbing out of the relegation zone.

But when January arrives, attentions will turn to the transfer window.

Newcastle need help at the back

Newcastle desperately need to improve their defence, with the Magpies yet to keep a clean sheet this season. The likes of Jamaal Lascelles and Ciaran Clark are severely underperforming, while Fabian Schar and Federico Fernandez are out of favour.

Steve Bruce wanted a new centre-back in the summer, and Emery will no doubt want reinforcements in defence himself.

So could Pau Torres be a viable option for the Magpies?

The Spanish central defender has played a lot of football under Emery, and has been linked with some of Europe’s biggest clubs. He already has 15 caps for his country, and helped Spain reach the semi-finals of this summer’s European Championship.

At 6ft4in, Torres is a commanding presence at the back who can get even better at just 24-years-old.

That’s why Toon fans would love it if Emery brought him with him to St James’ Park.
