The search for a new Newcastle United manager doesn’t seem to be going to plan at all.

On Tuesday, reports emerged that the final two candidates are Unai Emery and Eddie Howe.

The former was named as the favourite, and a report stated that Emery has told Newcastle he wants be their new manager.

That news was met with delight from Toon fans, excited by the prospect of the former Arsenal boss arriving at St James’ Park.

However, that move is now in doubt. Emery is reportedly unsure about a move to Newcastle, with Guillem Balague claiming that the 50-year-old will reject a move to the North East.

So does that mean Eddie Howe will be the next Newcastle manager?

Newcastle need to move fast if Eddie Howe is their man

A move for Howe will be somewhat underwhelming after the excitement of Emery possibly coming in.

However, even a move for the former Bournemouth boss could be complicated.

According to the Daily Mail, Howe will be a contender for the Norwich City job if they decide to sack Daniel Farke. Like Newcastle, the Canaries have endured a winless start to the Premier League season.

That report could put Newcastle under even more pressure.

If Emery is out of the question and Howe is the new man they want then they need to get a move on. Otherwise they could miss out on another managerial target.

And losing Howe to Norwich would be a bitter pill to swallow considering the precarious position of both clubs.

But could a move to Carrow Road be more appealing for Howe? It’s much closer to home, and it looks like he could be their first choice unlike at Newcastle.

As always, nothing is easy with the Magpies. A move for Emery is in doubt, and even getting Howe to St James’ Park could be problematic.
