Newcastle United have ‘significant interest’ in Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, according to 90min.com.
Chelsea are said to be looking to bring in another winger this summer, meaning his time at Stamford Bridge could be up.
They’ve been linked with the likes of Raheem Sterling, so it could be the perfect opportunity for Newcastle to pounce.
We’ve previously written that the Magpies should sign Hudson-Odoi if more wide men arrive at Stamford Bridge.
Well, this could now potentially be a reality following that latest report. It’s no wonder Newcastle have an interest in Hudson-Odoi, he’s got bags of talent. However, he’s struggled to make the Chelsea starting XI consistently.
Everton midfielder Dele Alli has even described his dribbling as ‘amazing‘ in the past, after linking up with him at international level.
Hudson-Odoi could see Newcastle move as an opportunity to showcase his talents
With Newcastle being linked to Hudson-Odoi, a move could benefit both parties. The winger will want more consistent minutes and the Magpies need more options out wide.
However, it’s unlikely that the Chelsea man will be their priority. Reports have claimed that the Toon are preparing a bid for Moussa Diaby of Bayer Leverkusen.
But if they aren’t able to land the Frenchman, it’s a great Diaby alternative. He’s young and has shown glimpses of real quality. He’s only 21-years-old, so he has plenty of time to grow and develop.
Also, it’s a true testament to the work of PIF and Dan Ashworth. The club seems to be in very safe hands. They have their exciting targets in place, but have alternatives on their radar.
Of the Diaby alternatives, Hudson-Odoi is arguably the best of the lot. He’s still very young and worked with some top players and coaches.
If Newcastle does have an interest in Hudson-Odoi, there is one obstacle. The Chelsea man is on a weekly salary of £120,000, which could be a gamble.
Kieran Trippier is on a hefty wage, but he’s an established player. Hudson-Odoi isn’t there yet and it would be a massive risk to meet his salary demands for such a young player.
