Newcastle United are currently working in Saudi Arabia, and club chiefs will reportedly hold a meeting this week ahead of the January transfer window.
That is according to the Daily Mail, who believe that the Magpies hierarchy will discuss the club’s plan of action for next month. They report that five key figures will be involved in the meeting – Eddie Howe, Dan Ashworth, Amanda Staveley, Mehrdad Ghodoussi and Jamie Reuben.
That means there will be no Yasir Al-Rumayyan, who is the club’s chairman and the governor of PIF.
He recently met with the players and staff in Riyadh, welcoming the squad to his house for dinner after their arrival in Saudi Arabia.
However, he reportedly will not be involved in transfer discussions, as Newcastle decide what to do with regards to incomings and outgoings next month.
The fact Al-Rumayyan will not be in attendance suggests that no major deals will be sanctioned, which is not a surprise given what has already been reported about Newcastle’s January plans.
Despite interest in players like James Maddison, it has been reported that PIF do not intend on splashing out on a big addition during the January transfer window.
That is a wise decision in the long run, but only time will tell whether or not it hinders our pursuit of European football this season.
Newcastle’s proposed transfer policy for January ahead of meeting
The Daily Mail add that Newcastle already have a transfer strategy in mind heading into January. They claim that the Magpies will most likely have a ‘one in, one out’ policy with regards to next month.
It has been claimed that Howe wants to make three signings in January, with a right-back, a midfielder and a wide forward being targeted.
So if Howe is to fill all the positions he wants, that means three players may have to leave St James’ Park.
One player who has been linked with a move away is Ryan Fraser, and he is reportedly attracting interest from Southampton and Brentford.
The Scotland international looks likely to leave, and it will be interesting to see who, if anyone, follows him out the door.
