Newcastle United have reportedly made an enquiry about signing Chelsea youngster Ethan Ampadu on loan.
That’s according to the Northern Echo, who believe the Wales international will leave Stamford Bridge before the transfer window closes.
Ampadu was first linked with the Magpies on Monday, with the Express claiming that Newcastle are considering a move for him or his Chelsea teammate Malang Sarr.

Some fans were more keen about signing the latter, but there would be a couple of benefits to bringing in Ampadu.
Why Newcastle may favour Ethan Ampadu
Despite moving a lot of fringe players on this summer, Newcastle’s squad is still very full.
According to the Daily Mail, Steve Bruce wants to sign Hamza Choudhury, but the club need to sell before they buy…or even loan.
Otherwise we could have a situation where we have too many senior players for our 25-man Premier League squad. Then you’ve got big earners sitting in the reserves unable to play, unless they are moved on.

But Ampadu would be different. He’s still only 20-years-old, meaning we wouldn’t need to register him as part of the squad.
He’s also versatile, which may appeal to Bruce. The Toon manager is on the lookout for a new defender and a defensive midfielder – two roles that Ampadu can play in.
The youngster doesn’t have a lot of first-team experience, but could be an astute signing by the Magpies if they get this one over the line.
