Newcastle United have today bid £33.5million for Jack Harrison, claims Foot Mercato.

If the report is true then the club have pulled a major u-turn. It was reported recently that the Magpies valued the Leeds United winger at £25million and were not keen to bid above that figure.

Leeds’ valuation of Harrison is £35million, which was £10million more than that of Newcastle’s. But it’s clear that the Toon want Harrison a lot if they’re going in with another bid. The club are in need of more options on the wing and the Englishman would be a great option to have.

Ex-Premier League forward Robbie Keane praised Harrison in the past. The Ireland legend described him as ‘very, very silful’ (Sky Sports Premier League,5:23pm, November 21, 2022).

Newcastle’s new bid for the Leeds star suggests they’re desperate to land a new winger before the transfer window closes

The new bid for the winger suggests Newcastle are very keen to land another wide man. In addition, the fact the Magpies are willing to bid closer to Leeds’ valuation of Harrison suggests they really want him specifically.

Aside from Allan Saint-Maximin, there’s no doubt Harrison would be the best winger at the club. Ryan Fraser and Miguel Almiron have improved under Eddie Howe, but they lack consistency.

Also, Harrison has proven himself to be a Premier League quality player. At only 25-years-old, he can only get better and better.

Newcastle have felt the wrath of Harrison before. In the 2020/21 campaign he tormented the Toon, with Leeds doing the double over the Magpies that season.

Harrison was a big threat on both occasions for the Whites. So some Newcastle fans will know just how good he is.

In today’s market, it seems almost every player is valued ridiculously high. So in some ways, the bid Newcastle placed for Harrison isn’t much of a surprise. He would definitely be a great addition to the Magpies’ attack.

However, this rumour should be taken with a pinch of salt. It comes from France, which should set alarm bells ringing given it’s about an English club bidding for an English player from another English club…
