Frank Lampard is reportedly being considered to replace Steve Bruce as Newcastle United manager.
The 60-year-old is expected to lose his job this week, with Graeme Jones likely to take charge of Newcastle when they face Tottenham on Sunday.
Despite no official confirmation on Bruce’s future, plenty of managers are being linked with a move to St James’ Park.
The latest name to enter the equation is Frank Lampard. The former England midfielder has been out of work since being sacked by Chelsea back in January.
Whether or not he would be a hit with fans remains to be seen. While he would surely be better than Bruce, more impressive names have been linked.
Lampard doesn’t have a lot of managerial experience. He was beaten in the playoff final at Derby County, then shockingly got the Chelsea job where he was sacked after 18 months.
Steven Gerrard reportedly won’t join Newcastle
While one England legend is being considered, another is reportedly out of the running.
The Telegraph state that Steven Gerrard won’t be replacing Bruce as he is happy with his current club Rangers.
However, it looks like they needn’t worry. And neither should Newcastle fans.
While Gerrard would have been an interesting option, there are plenty of alternatives out there – some with a lot more experience than the former Liverpool and England captain.
