Newcastle United had a plan in place for the January transfer window, but will now be changing it do to the form of one player – Miguel Almiron.

The 28-year-old is enjoying a fantastic season, taking his pre-season form into the Premier League. The Paraguayan currently has seven league goals to his name, which is his best ever tally.

October was an incredible month for Almiron. He scored six times, including stunners against Fulham, Everton, Tottenham and Aston Villa. During the same period, Jack Grealish failed to score once.

The winger has hit back at the Man City man in emphatic fashion, and has made himself a key player for Eddie Howe. And with every top quality performance, he reminds fans that we didn’t need to replace him during the summer.

Newcastle tried desperately to sign a right-sided forward, but were unable to bring one in. It looked like a mistake at the time.

Luckily, Almiron has stepped up and delivered. And his form is forcing Dan Ashworth to amend his plans for the January transfer window.

What Newcastle will now do in January when the transfer window opens

According to the Athletic, Newcastle remain keen on signing a winger when the transfer window opens. They add that the club were looking for someone who can play on the right.

However, the Athletic state that, because of Almiron’s performances, Ashworth will no longer just be looking for a right-sided forward. Instead, the search will be more flexible, including players who can operate on the left too.

That’s definitely a good thing, as it gives Newcastle a wider scope to get someone who will improve the team.

A flexible signing would be good – someone who can play on either side and provide cover and competition for Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin.

But Newcastle are no longer looking to replace the £21million man, and rightly so. As long as he keeps playing like this he is a guaranteed starter.

He is perfect for Howe’s pressing system, and is now adding goals to his game. There’s simply no need to find a replacement.
