Miguel Almiron is unstoppable right now, scoring his seventh goal of the season in Saturday’s 4-0 win vs Aston Villa.
The Paraguayan scored Newcastle’s final goal of the afternoon on St James’ Park, as the Magpies produced a blistering second half display.
Miggy’s strike was the pick of the bunch, just eclipsing the clever corner routine that gave Callum Wilson his second goal of the afternoon – a play that Almiron was heavily involved in.
But for his goal, the 28-year-old showed off the immense confidence he has right now. Wilson sprayed the ball out to him on the right, and Almiron’s first touch proved straight away that he fancied a shot at goal.
He curled a sensational effort past Robin Olsen, scoring for the third game in a row. It means Almiron now has seven goals already this season, making him the joint-fifth top scorer in the Premier League.

It was an absolutely wonderful goal from Newcastle’s number 24, but not his best of the season. That’s testament to the calibre of goals he’s been scoring.
However, the goal against Villa still managed to take Eddie Howe by surprise.
Howe on Almiron’s goal v Aston Villa
After the game, Howe spoke to NUFC TV. He was asked about Almiron’s goal and whether or not he expected it to go in given his recent form in front of goal.
“I don’t know if I expected it to…I hoped it would,” Howe said.
“But from that range you don’t really have that expectation that he will score. It was an incredible finish. I thought he used the defender’s body really well. The goalkeeper had no chance.
“He’s in that kind of form at the moment where he’s very confident and executing what he wants to do at a very high level.”
Miggy knew he was going to score
While Howe might not have expected Almiron to find the net, he certainly did. The way he took the chance on epitomised his transformation this season.
He has often been shy of confidence in a Toon shirt, but that is no longer the case. Almiron clearly believes in his talents right now, and knew he had the ability to take the shot on from distance and find the net.
Ever since that volley against Fulham went in, Almiron has believed he can do anything. He is on a remarkable run, and will surely be named October’s Premier League Player of the Month.
