Report: Newcastle are now interested in very aggressive CB who's been sent off 3 times this year

According to Jeunes Footexu Newcastle United are interested in Maxence Lacroix of Wolfsburg. The same report claims West Ham are also interested in the Frenchman. Bundesliga.com described the 22-year-old as having ‘elegance’ and a ‘healthy aggression’.

Last season Lacrioix was one of the most exciting young talents in the Bundesliga. His pace was highlighted as a standout attribute. He looked poised to kick on and become a top defender. This season he’s really struggled, with on the pitch discipline issues creeping into his game. Lacroix has three red cards to his name.

The most recent Lacroix came against Borussia Monchengladbach in February. This season overall has been very disappointing for Wolfsburg. They finished in 4th last season, this season they dropped down to 12th.

Your Club's SURPRISE Star This Season

Lacroix is still young and has a lot of potential, but Newcastle shouldn’t sign him this summer

With Newcastle interested in Lacroix, they should definitely reconsider based on his poor campaign this season. There are a number of other Newcastle transfer targets linked in the centre-back position.

Lacroix is still young and has time to get better. However, it would be such a risk to sign him, it could be a disastrous first campaign in the Premier League.

In recent years the Toon have had a mixed bag when it comes to signing defenders from abroad. Considering the nature of the Lacroix red cards this season he could make the backline even shakier.

One of the names that has appeared recently as a Newcastle transfer target is James Tarkowski. His contract ends this season and would be available on a free.

This summer could be a big one for the Magpies. Not just in terms of signings but outgoings too. A number of names could leave Tyneside this summer. Issac Hayden has hinted that he could be leaving Newcastle this summer after the victory against Arsenal on Monday.

Newcastle needs more options in defence, Dan Burn and Fabian Schar have been outstanding. However, the options aside from that are very lacking. If they are to push for the top 10 next season, they’ll need to strengthen.
