Isaac Hayden hints he could leave Newcastle in message to fans

Isaac Hayden has admitted the ‘future is bright’ for Newcastle United. Whether he’s a part of that future remains to be seen.

The midfielder hasn’t played for the Magpies since December 2021. His last appearance came in the 4-0 defeat to Manchester City last year.

Since then he’s undergone surgery on a knee injury, and was subsequently dropped from Eddie Howe’s 25-man Premier League squad.

He returned to training last month, but has been unable to get competitive minutes under his belt. Considering how long it took him to get fit, Howe’s decision to remove him from the squad was justified.

But Hayden was at St James’ Park on Monday night, and joined the squad on their lap of honour at the end of the game.

Isaac Hayden suggests his Newcastle career could be over

After the game, Hayden sent out a tweet to supporters, paying tribute to the club he’s called home since 2016.

“What a football club, the future is bright and will be a pleasure to watch it in whatever capacity that is,” he wrote.

The 27-year-old’s words suggest his future likely lies away from St James’ Park. ‘In whatever capacity that is’ doesn’t really scream ‘I’m staying put’.

Given what’s happened this season, it would be no surprise to see Hayden leave the club.

He’s played 14 times, and scored his one and only goal in the 1-1 draw with Brighton in November. That was a vital strike, and he scored it in front of the incoming Eddie Howe.

Hayden was a mainstay in the side at the start of the season, but only started twice under the new manager.

He’s been a crucial player over the past few years, going from an unsung Championship hero to the Premier League’s perfect utility man. He’s done a job in multiple positions, and always gave his all for the club. He was a bargain too, costing just £1.5million from Arsenal.

It’s been reported that Hayden could leave Newcastle this summer. If that is the case, he’ll certainly get a big send off. Hayden has been the ultimate professional for the Magpies, and hopefully finds success elsewhere.
