Newcastle United are hoping to seal two new signings by the end of the week (The Daily Mail). Firstly, Newcastle are advancing talks for Sven Botman. Furthermore, they’re looking to finalise the signing of Ligue 1 striker Hugo Ekitike.
The same report states that the Magpies have made a £32 million bid for the Dutchman. The hope is that talks will be concluded with Lille this week. The French side wants £34 million for Botman’s services
As for Ekitike, the deal is complicated, due to the fact the Toon wants to pay Stade Reims in instalments. But with Newcastle looking to finalise Ekitike this week, the waiting may have finally paid off. He’s had an impressive season in the French league and would bolster the Magpies’ attacking options.

If both signings are completed this week, it’s a big boost for Newcastle
Newcastle’s advancing talks for Botman will have some fans delighted, they missed out on him in January. Whilst January signing Dan Burn has been excellent, the Toon need depth in options at the back.
Sporting Director Dan Ashworth watched Botman this past weekend. He was in attendance when Holland’s U21s took on Wales U21s in a 1-0 win. At such a young age, Botman already has a Ligue 1 winners medal and played in the Champions League.
So if the Toon is able to get the deal done, it would be some signing. Now that Ashworth has watched Botman play, he’s seen first-hand what he’s capable of.
Upfront is also an area where the Magpies need strengthening. Callum Wilson has looked great since his return from injury, but they need more options in attack. Chris Wood has struggled to find the net on a consistent basis and Dwight Gayle has barely featured under Eddie Howe. Middlesbrough want to sign the 32-year-old after six years with the club, so he could well be off this summer.

With Newcastle looking to finalise Ektike this week, it will generate a lot of excitement amongst some fans. He’s 19-years-old but has shown a lot of promise. The Frenchman could be a long-term solution for the club. With both Wilson and Wood in their thirties, Ekitike could well be the future of the club.
By the end of the week, we may see the Magpies sign three players this window. They’re looking to conclude the talks with Botman and also Newcastle is looking to finalise Ekitike. It would leave the squad looking much improved for next season, even at this early stage of the summer.
